We have a rather exciting (and indulgent) new arrival to the shop this week following many requests, so we thought we would get your mouth watering with a bit of blurb!
Buchanans’ Buttered Brazils are now sitting proudly in our shop for you to spoil yourselves with! Ta-da!
For those in the know, I won’t go on about their buttery deliciousness. But for those who have yet to learn just how wonderful these little foil wrapped goodies are... Each Buttered Brazils is a whole nut coated in mouth-watering, smooth butterscotch, wrapped in a gold foil that can only hint at what gem is inside, they are definitely worth their weight!
Speaking of mouth watering – please forgive me while I go and gobble another one!
If nuts aren’t your “thing”, then how about a bag of our Toffee Crumble? A new addition to the jars which boasts a crumbly mix of milk chocolate, toffee, biscuits and nuts. Judging by how quickly the Seasons girls gobbled them up, I think they’re going to be a permanent fixture in the jars!
I’m thinking of putting a lock on the jars to stop eating them all myself. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!
We have been very kindly invited to join in with a 1940’s weekend at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton (near Aylesbury) for the weekend of 19th-20th May! We will be taking all of our traditional delicious sweets with us to bring the flavours of the 1940s to the celebrations.
During World War II, sweets were one of the last categories to be de-rationed and until 1953, you had to make just 2 ounces (that’s 60g) last for a week until you could buy more tokens!
We will be there all weekend, from 10.30 – 5.30 along with loads of other exciting experiences reminiscent of the 1940s including artwork, music, military vehicles and re-enactment groups. Come and join us on a trip down memory lane!
We don’t know about you, but this “British Summer” time that brought the clocks forward brought so much promise of sunshine, picnics & barbeques and sunny afternoons lolling through the park with the family. And so, we brought in our delicious creamy ice cream (you may have heard us mention it here and there...).
Lo and behold, the April Showers have arrived, preceded by stories of snow storms up in the Highlands and grizzly drizzly afternoons in the Home Counties. As with most years, we are always surprised when Spring changes its mind from sun to showers, and being British, we like to have a good whinge about it.
But not to write off the year just yet, we’ve had so many of our lovely, loyal customers, braving the hail stones and still heading to us for their usual scoop of Lemon Meringue ice cream (and an extra cone for the puppy!) in spite, or perhaps to spite the weather!
We’re asking you to join us in flying in the face of the English weather, come and enjoy the beautiful town of Old Amersham and its stunning Memorial Gardens, with a scoop in hand....or maybe just some (bah) Humbugs to put a smile back on your face!
We've been finding our Tweeting feet recently and linking up with many of our local friends, suppliers and loyal customers via Twitter.
If you fall into one of those categories...or indeed would like the thought of being in your own category (suggestions welcomed!) then follow us too. We love tweeting about what makes us reach for the sweetie jars, new products we have in, and interesting sweetie facts you never knew about before!
If Twitter isn't your style, how about following us on Facebook instead. On our Facebook page, you'll find pictures of our shop and new and exciting lines that we're stocking, but you can also use it as a way to pass on stories of your favourite sweets from yester-year!
We'd love to here from you either way, so get clicking to follow our Twitter or Facebook antics.
Without wishing to tempt fate, we think Spring may have actually arrived in the beautiful Chilterns. Gorgeous little daffodils are poking up through the grass, the birds are chirpier than we’ve heard them in months (they must have finished clearing the snow from their nests) and everyone in Old Amersham seems to be just as chirpy too!
In light of that, we get to celebrate Mother’s Day (Sunday 18th – THIS WEEKEND!), and Easter is just around the sunny corner too. We’re not going to go on about it, but we also just got in our truly scrumptious Ice Cream (Lemon Meringue, Honeycomb and English Toffee won the votes).
So for all your celebrations with loved ones this cheerful season, come and see what unique sweet gifts we have including local chocolatier “Auberge du Chocolat” Easter creations, Real Eggshell praline chocolate eggs, our notorious Easter themed Sweetshakes and bundles of goodies for Mum too.
You might have seen it on our Facebook page already but if not, we need your help.
Next week our Ice Cream will be back (yippee!) and we have room for 3 guest flavours. Take a look at the list below, vote for the one that make your mouth water the most (it might be tough choosing just one) and the top 3 will start the season off.
We always have scrummy Strawberry, divine Chocolate, smooth Vanilla and tantalising Mint choc chip too, but to keep it interesting, we want your to choose the others.
She makes you cups of tea, nurses you when you’re feeling poorly, let’s you confide in her when you need a chat, puts a plaster on your knee when you fall in the playground and kisses you better, and most of all, remembers you love her really even when you’re throwing a wobbly.
It almost seems a shame that there is only one day a year when it’s time to show her just how much you appreciate her, but Sunday 18th March (write that down) is the day to make a fuss of her. Perhaps take her a cup of tea in bed? Maybe let her have a lie in and take the dogs for a walk that day? What about a huge gesture of kindness – clean the bathroom without having been asked at all?! Make sure you do something to let her know you love her for being your Mum. Treat her, make her feel special, show your appreciation of her by doing something thoughtful.
A box of luxury truffles or some good old fashioned Rhubarb & Custards she had when she was little? A box of lovely liquorice that she won’t be expected to share (promise not to even ask), or some Dark Chocolate Brazil nuts for her to gobble down while watching a film (while you cook dinner). If you’re feeling even sweeter, you could opt for one of our “Marvellous Mum” Sweet Shakes to show her just how much you love her
You may have noticed (or it may have been heavily suggested) that a certain Saint Valentine gets his own special day of celebration next week (it’s next Tuesday 14th for anyone who needs a bit of help), so what better to do than to help him celebrate all things romantic with your loved ones. Around the world, Valentine’s day is for celebrating friendship, romantic love and marriage, and we owe it to the great English Poet, Geoffrey Chaucer for transforming it into an annual display of affection in his poetry of the Middle Ages.
Around the country, and the world there are many different customs to show affection. In Norfolk, a character called 'Jack' Valentine knocks on the rear door of houses leaving sweets and presents for children (that said, many children were scared of this mystical person!). In South Korea, similar to Japan, women give chocolate to men on February 14, and men give non-chocolate candy to women on March 14. In China, the common situation is the man gives chocolate, flowers or both to the woman that he loves.
Being that we are in the beautiful Chilterns, we’ve got our own range of goodies to spoil your nearest and dearest with. In love with a chocoholic? We have some voluptuous cappuccino truffles ready for our very versatile gift boxes. Something for a cheeky chappy? What about chili chocolate hearts. A little bit of love? You could opt for a lovely little chocolate lollipop. Does your lover love Liquorice? We have some the aptly named “Saint Valentine’s Liquorice Company” Liquorice Fusili. Or failing that, our famous Sweet Shakes, stuffed to the brim with scrummy sweets.
Whatever you buy for your loved ones this Valentine’s Day, think about what would make them smile, and even if it’s just a quarter of Lemon Sherbets, at least maybe they would offer you one too!
