For those of you who think sweets are just for kids, it seems many of our customers would have something to say about that. In fact some of them have some really wonderful things to say about that and their happy childhood memories.
One of our lovely loyal customers came in to see us for his usual order – a “quarter” of Raspberry Ruffles (it rather spoils things having to say 100g!). With a big smile on his face, he couldn’t hold back telling us exactly why they were his favourites...
Jameson’s Raspberry Ruffles were first made in the Cadbury factories in the early 1900’s; not only did Cadbury’s make chocolates for them but sent clothing and books to our soldiers who fought in the First & Second World Wars (good on them, we say). As a young man at the start of the Second World War, our customer would save up his ration coupons and buy a bag of Raspberry Ruffles to treat his first girlfriend at the age of 16. We think that’s the sweetest proof of true love we’ve ever heard!
Another one of our customers told us of his sheer delight when he was first told that Rationing was ending. He thought it could only mean one thing...everyone was allowed to eat as many sweets as they would like! Imagine the disappointment when he found out the real answer!
Every day in our shop we hear more and more stories from customers (of all ages) reminiscing about sweets from their childhood. Why not share your stories with us too?
