Calling all Chocoholics

Think about it all the time? Sneak some out of your desk drawer when you think no one is looking? Justify that last bar by eating an extra apple later? Whatever the excuse, sometimes you’ve just got to have a little bit of chocolate to get you through the day.

So, to cover the basics, you could just go for a Finger of Fudge (cue 1980’s jingle “A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat”), using only 20p of your lunch money, but is it enough to get rid of that niggling urge? Or there’s the good old, reliable classic Cadbury’s Dairy Milk – a fail-safe option for a quick fix. For the macho man, there’s Mars or Snickers with enough “oomph” to get the day back on track with a sugar rush, or for the lighter ladylike lunches, there’s Munchies – only 10 little pieces to nibble slowly (if you can resist for long enough).

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could always try something from across the pond. Hershey’s offer  Milk or Dark chocolate to start with, or more exciting offerings of Cookies & Cream or Cookies & Chocolate. Without comment on the manufacturers’ mental state, there’s also the more nutty bars like Oh Henry! or Baby Ruth bars or the ever popular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. These of course depend how far you want your bar to have travelled before it gets close enough to cure your cravings.

Moving on to the “Grown-up” boxes of chocolates, those lovely Dinner Party gifts or last minute thank you presents. You could go for the award winning Summerdown Pure Mint range of Mint thins, crisps or peppermint cream. Whilst they look good on the outside, the delectable goodies that the boxes contain will make sure you buy them again...even if just to have in the house for evening indulgence. Then the box that gets everyone’s attention and sits proudly at the top of the leader board - Prestat. If you haven’t heard of them, or further, tried them yet – shame on you (we might forgive you eventually). As the beautifully designed boxes boast the Royal stamp “By appointment to Her Majesty the Queen – Purveyors of Chocolates”, you know you’re on to a good thing if the Elizabeth Windsor is willing to endorse them.  When you eventually open the box, you’ll find unique flavours including Passion Fruit Fondant, Cassis Jelly, Rice Crisp Nougat, and Hazelnut Cluster among others.

For a more personal or even “bespoke” menu of chocolates, you could always opt for a selection from the Loose Chocolates display in our shop. A few weeks ago we blogged about Salted Caramels after Nigella Lawson poured over them in an article for Stylist magazine (including pouring the stuff over her head in the photo shoot – that’s dedication for you!). They are now flying out by the dozen. Or going for the wow factor, the Crème Brulée Pyramids add style to the selection. But back to the devoted chocoholics, you simply can’t beat an exquisite Belgian cocoa truffle dusted in rich cocoa powder ready to melt in your mouth.

I don’t know about you but my mouth is watering almost too much to type anymore, so I will leave the choice in your hands!
